Nevers
Thursday, we cruised in the morning across the Allier River and docked at our final destination, Plagny. The bus took us a few minutes away to the town of Nevers where we visited a church, a saint, another church, and a factory. We had considerable rain in Nevers. Thursday night was the "gala dinner".
The bus drove past the piece of the old town wall.
We visited another faience factory - a slightly different style.
The church where St. Bernadette (one of the children at Lourdes) lies today is in Nevers where she spent the last years of her life as a nun. Her intact body is in a glass case (I didn't feel I could take pictures). When she was exhumed to obtain relics for her sainthood years after her death, her body had not decomposed. Actually, they dug her up three times. Then they coated her skin with a light layer of wax and put her in a glass case. And yes, it is kind of strange. We were also prohibited from taking pictures in the museum.
The Church of St. Cyr and Ste. Juliette, martyrs. The story of these saints is very vague. The locals believe the St. Cyr was beheaded and then walked through town carrying his head. The Catholic Church list of saints on the Web doesn't list either of them.
A fresco in St. Cyr and Ste. Juliette.
One of the stained glass windows in the church. Most of them were bombed out in WWII, but these looked old.

Briare Cosne Ch. Meillant Canal de Briare While wandering through town, it was raining on and off and was getting chilly near dark. We stopped in this bar for a cafe (and found some of our fellow passengers).
