Athens Acropolis Site
The walk up to the top at the Acropolis was not trivial. They could use an elevator! And the site itself is strewn with pieces of the temples whose placement has not been found yet. They are doing major reconstruction for the Olympics coming to Athens in 2004. The ground itself is rock (I guess that's why it hasn't eroded away), rough, and very slippery when wet. Fortunately, we left before the real rain came in the afternoon. The size of the structures was most amazing.
Last steps to the top. It was pretty crowded that day but it probably always is. Classic view of the Parthenon.
Detail of the corner.
Parthenon from the side that's being worked on.
Temple of Athena across rock field.
Same temple from the side.
The Porch of Caryatids, columns of the Temple of Athena. Columns and a little blue sky.
Temple to Athena Nike. The Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
