New tool

Wolfgang Schreiber has long been a provider of excellent NetWare tools. He's just released a Windows-based replacement (called UPDATE-WIN)for Ncopy described as a "Win32 utility that can be used as a replacement for XCOPY and NCOPY and has several extensions. It can be used to transfer files, paths with all NetWare info (dir/file rights, IRMs, space limits) between servers or trees, or to synchronize two directories." It's a neat tool!

DST Updates

Novell has now posted three Technical Information Documents covering the upcoming Daylight Savings Time problem.

NetWare 4.12, 5.1, 6.0, 6.5 and Open Enterprise Server (NetWare based) servers in affected United States and Canada time zones should be updated with DSTShift.nlm, see TID 3397648 - Daylight Savings Time Adjustment Tool for Netware Servers.

Servers in Western Australia should be updated from TID 3109599.

All servers also need their Java Runtime Environment (JRE) updated. See: TID 3980430.

GroupWise users should also check here.

eDirectory 8.8

There's a good review of eDirectory 8.8 at the TechWorld web site:

" Back in the old days when NetWare 4.x was a pretty neat idea, the new innovation that it brought with it was Novell Directory Services, or NDS..."

Reviewer David Cartwright doesn't get wildly enthusiastic, but I guess it's nice seeing anything good written about a non-Linux Novell product -

"In short, eDirectory is a very nice directory service. It’s perhaps a bit top-heavy when you compare it to something like OpenLDAP, but to its credit it’s been around for donkey’s years (remember its NetWare 4.x heritage) and I for one have worked in companies with global WANs running NDS and so I’ve seen it running happily in a decent sized, real-world setup."
