Monday, we returned to the mainland of Spain and to one of the most "Mediterranean-looking" cities. To get to town, we walked up quite a hill and eventually reached the Alcazaba. Built in the 10th through 15th centuries, it stands on top of a hill overlooking the port. We thought this was the best of all the fortifications we visited. Almeria is one of the oldest cities in Spain, having been first settled by the Carthaginians.
