Business Trip, July 2001

Utah and San Diego

One of us went to Provo, UT and San Diego, CA for business purposes. The other one for vacation. We arrived in Salt Lake City on July 18th and drove to Provo where we stayed for a couple of days. On the 21st, we flew to San Diego for few more days, returning on the 26th.
Heber City is just through Provo Canyon and is the home of the Heber Creeper, a 19th century steam train which does train tours. I took the one through the valley, past the reservoir, through part of Provo Canyon to Vivian Park where we spent 1/2 hour and then returned.

Dave and I took a quick tour around Mt. Nebo. I drove alone around the north end of Timpanogas and also through Provo Canyon. And we both visited Utah Lake Park with views of both sides of the valley.
In San Diego on Sunday, we took a tour of the harbor in gorgeous weather. Then we drove to Imperial Beach to watch the sun set.

Next day, I went for my usual day at Balboa Park. I never seem to see all it has to offer. This time, they had completed renovation on the Alcazaba Garden and the Botanical Building waterlily pond.
Also I visited other usual stops. Point Loma gives a wonderful view of San Diego and the Naval base activities. And there is a tidal pool that is usually wonderful. Unfortunately, the low tide was high and the park closed too soon. Old San Diego has lots of shops and restaurants and some early buildings. I visited the old adobe which somehow I missed on other trips.

But, I left the best for last. I spent 4 hours one afternoon San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park on a photography safari. You travel through areas of the park on a big ol' truck, feeding animals and taking pictures close up. It was really great!
