Irreverent, I meant irreverent!

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan says that most websites are irrelevant to the real needs of people. He also singled out the use of English as the lingua franca of the internet as one of its failings. But, as we all know, the great advantage of the internet and the web is the ease with which sites can be brought up. Of course, if you really want to see irrelevance on the web, check Mr. Annan's web site.

Nothing like an overnight success

According to this story in Network World, the first test of an IPv6 network went well recently. Of course, we've been talking about IPv6 for almost 10 years (see Scott Bradner's column from early 1995). Someone want to tell me again how "internet time" is so much faster than real time?

Their time is past

The AP is reporting that radio & TV Broadcasters feel left out of the World Summit on the Information Society. Guillaume Chenevière, executive director of a parallel media forum and a former head of Switzerland's state-owned TSR TV station, said broadcasters feel the so-called World Summit on the Information Society will be like a "conference on agriculture without farmers." Actually, its more like a conference on agriculture without fishermen.
